On March 30, 2015, CHU hosted its 46th University Founding Day ceremony at the Keumhogwan building on campus. CHU was founded in 1969, as Cheju Nursing College. It has changed greatly over the years, and has seen great strides in the improvement of the educational environment, becoming a World Class College 3 years ago, in addition to establishing an Overseas Employment Program which has become the nation's leading such project. President of CHU, Kim Sung-hun, said "We are continuing to implement our vision of becoming Northeast Asia's leading university for job skills education, and are thankful for all the support we have received in working towards this goal. Our strategy now involves the promotion of specialized resources." This year's ceremony included the conferment of awards to outstanding CHU staff members and professors who have distinguished themselves in their fields of specialization. Professors given awards this year include Mun Seokhwan, Kim Bogyun, Im Changgyu, Seo Jeongmo, Shin Jeongha, Kang Seongju, Kim Seongjin, Lee Yeonga and Seo Hyejeong. Staff members presented awards include Lee Sangyong and Jeong Kiweon.
