On July 1, 2015, CHU and China's Hwangsan University signed an MOU intended to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions. Director of CHU's Confucius Institute, Shin Euigyeong, and a group of other CHU staff members visited Hwangsan University in China to meet Wang Euichong, dean of the international relations division at Hwangsan University, and following discussions related to educational programs to be jointly run by the two universities, arrived at a mutual agreement and signed the MOU. A Korean language program will be established in September 2016 thanks to this agreement. Representatives of Hwangsan University visited CHU 4 months previously to begin base discussions on these topics, building on an earlier MOU signed in 2012. This MOU strengthens and expands the previous agreement. Hwangsan University was established in 1978 as the only university in Hwangsan, having changed its name from the original used at the original establishment of the institution in 1956. In 2000, it merged with Hwangsan Advanced Special School, and became known as Hwansan University in 2002. It has been receiving international students since 2006, and was recognized by the government of China for its accomplishments in 2013. It currently has 903 staff members and over 18,000 enrolled students.
