On July 22, 2015, CHU's Confucius Institute hosted a Chinese Culture event for children from Gapado and other remote islands. The event is held each year, and was hosted on Gapado this year, offering children the opportunity to learn about Chinese culture. Gapado Elementary School teachers and students, 20 in all, attended the event, and learned about pandas, Chinese characters, traditional paper, Chinese songs and a variety of other things. Shin Euigyeong, director of the Confucius Institute, said "the children were able to learn a lot about Chinese culture at this event, which was a valuable opportunity for them. We plan to support more such programs in the future to further deepen ties between Korea and China.
