An introduction to philosophy

Philosophy is the study of systematizing thoughts on various problems of the world and human beings through logical analysis and generalization. For instance, these are core issues of philosophy; logical forms of thought, the basis of knowledge and science, the true nature of existence, touchstone of value and meanings of codes of behavior, history, religion and art. It is a domain of a study but also a domain of life. The issues of philosophy help to seek right sense of values among diverse modern values and cure ourselves by harmonizing our body and mind.

Cultural History

This is intended to understand Jeju culture as a view of rediscovery of everyday affairs. Unlike history in the past which focused on heros, important figures and events, this course directs students to rediscover the fact that the lives of ordinary people were also an important element of our history.

Language and Composition

This course is aims to provide chances of learning basic knowledge about writing in relation to language life and Nursing and cultivating effective writing skills and righteous language use. Therefore, this course focuses on following Korean language usage and fostering writing skills suitable for both spoken & written Korean language.

Physiology

This course covers physiological functions of human body parts and factors that affects these so that students can increase their clinical understanding.

TOEFL (1),(2),(3),(4)

This course provides basic writing skills, essential requirement of TOEFL test, and chances of expanding students' vocabulary and organizing thematic expressions in order to help students for the TOEFL test.

Nursing 1-1-1

This is the first year first semester S-PBL (Simulation-Problem Based Learning) subject. Through this course, learners can explain history of nursing and concepts of nursing process. Based on the understanding of the concepts of nursing and health, developmental features in an adolescent stage, health belief, Vital signs and physical exam results students are able to assess clinical problems of a patient.
Students can also make use of nursing process by collecting, analysing, and incorporating information from simulated clinical situations which is similar to the conditions provided in this course. The learning concepts and contents of nursing practice are as follows:

Nursing 1-1-2

This is the first year first semester PBL (Problem Based Learning) subject. Students are able to understand basic nursing and the nursing process of assessing, diagnosis, planning, mediation, and evaluation. Based on the knowledge of sensory disorder, immune and allergies disorders and oncology nursing, they are also able to make nursing plans in accordance with the developmental stages of childhood and adult characteristics. Using PBL method, they can not only get professional knowledge, skills and attitude but also enhance critical-thinking and interpersonal skills in a given situation by collecting, analysing, self and cooperative studying clinical information.

Nursing 1-2-1

This is the first year second semester S-PBL(Simulation Problem-Based Learning) subject. Students are able to learn, practice and carry out nursing on the general wards and delivery room and plan nursing according to adult patient's elimination needs who have nutrition disorders, skin integrity & acid-base imbalance. Based on the understanding of normal delivery and labor and delivery process, they are also able to make care plans and apply proper nursing process to meet demands of recipients mentally and emotionally.
Students can also make use of nursing process by collecting, analysing, and incorporating information from simulated clinical situations which are similar to the conditions provided in this course. The learning concepts and contents of nursing practice are as follows:

Adult stage, Problematic family and High-risk family, Emotional environment 1, Exercise & Activity 1, Self-care, Elimination 1, Procreation 1, Nursing process use, Information analysis and integration

Nursing 1-2-2

This is the first year second semester S-PBL subject. Students are able to nursing on how to identify medical problems concerning nutrition and metabolism requirements and apply nursing process based on the understanding of digestive system and its physiological functions. In addition, they can also acquire capabilities which are needed to be a nursing manager by understanding concepts of nursing management such as management theory, marketing, planning, financial management and decision making. This course will provide opportunities to learn how to cope with actual nursing situations as well as professional knowledge, skills and attitude by training skills to connect various simulated learning experiences with actual situations and cope with them and by evaluating students' performance on these. Through PBL method, they can improve their critical-thinking ability, cooperative study skills and self directed learning ability.

Nursing 2-1-1

This is the second year first semester S-PBL subject. Students are able to learn nursing on neonates and infants considering their developmental features and assessing health problems related to female genital organs so that they can plan nursing. They can also learn how to apply nursing synthetically utilizing concepts and principles of nursing, interrelation and nursing ethics. Students can also make use of nursing process by collecting, analysing, and incorporating information from simulated clinical situations which are similar to the conditions provided in this course.

Nursing 2-2-1

This is the second-year-second-semester S-PBL subject. Based on the understanding of structure, function and pathophysiological mechanism of nervous system, circulatory system, blood system and endocrine system, students are able to apply nursing process, considering middlescence and old age characteristics. The are also able to implement nursing in emergence and grieving situations. In addition, they are able to perform assessment of neurology and circulating system, craniocervical physical examination, and artificial resuscitation. Under the stimulated of situations, they are able to collect information, analyse, integrate and apply nursing process. The learning concepts and contents of nursing practice are as follows:

Nursing 2-2-2

This is the second-year-second-semester PBL subject. Based on the understanding of growth-development process and emotional environment of infants and pre-school age children, students are able to provide nursing care. The are also able to assess personal mental health problems and family problems and make care plans for a problematic family. Therefore, they are able to integrate concepts and principles of nursing and implement to patients and children with mental disorder.

Core Skills-Lab(1)

This is the second-year-second-semester subject. This subject is to examine and evaluate the core skills for operating room, medical wards, and surgical wards. Specific learning concepts for each section are as follows:

Students can practice the name and use of laparotomy set instrument, surgical hand-washing, gowning and gloving aseptically, by watching movies and demonstrations by trainers at a college lab. They are also able to enhance their abilities in this clinical area through systematic practice and evaluation.

Based on the understanding of administration of medication, students are able to find proper injection sites, keeping 5 rights and administer orally and non-orally in exactly the right way. They are also able to do nursing on management of urination and elimination and insertion of nasogastric tube properly.

Students are able to master aseptic technique for infection control and take vital signs to collect right basic information.

Core Skills-Lab(2)

This is the third-year-first-semester subject. This subject is to examine and evaluate the core skills for intensive care units, emergency rooms, delivery rooms and neonatal intensive care units. Specific learning concepts for each section are as follows:

Students can practice the manuals of patient monitoring, assessment of the nervous system and artificial resuscitation, by watching movies and demonstrations from trainers at a college lab. They are also able to enhance their abilities in this clinical area through systematic practice and evaluation.

Students can practice the manuals of airway (insertion of endotracheal tube) and artificial resuscitation (basic life support), by watching movies and demonstrations from trainers at college lab. They are also able to enhance their abilities in this clinical area through systematic practice and evaluation.

Students are able to learn about nursing for delivery rooms, make care plans and implement in a given clinical situation. They are also able to understand a woman in a childbed with an unborn child physically, physiologically, and psychologically and acquire knowledge, skills and attitude to expect and cope reaction of a woman in a childbed properly. Therefore, they can enhance essential core skills required from newly graduated nurses by practicing through simulated situations, discussion and instructor's evaluation.

Students are able to practice the manuals of neonatal nursing and high-risk neonatal nursing, by watching movies and using simulators at a college neonatal nursing lab. They are also able to enhance their abilities in this clinical area through systematic practice and evaluation.

Medical Law

This subject enhances the understanding of a legal concept, system, and classification, and of characteristics of the Administrative Law. Also, students can have a chance to learn the classification, contents, and registration process of laws and regulations in order to understand various health care relations Act.

Each subject helps students think comprehensively over the understanding of each subject they have studied. By reviewing knowledge and techniques of nursing they are able to have an overview of nursing comprehensively.

Medical-Surgical Nursing and Clinical practices (1)(2)(3)

This subject is a clinical practice subject. Through clinical practices, students are able to solve health problems by assessing patients' clinical problems and applying nursing process in order to improve and prevent patients', their family's and neighbor's health problems. Students can also acquire required knowledge, skills and attitude as a professional nurse and understand patients' health problems in each clinical practice area and each stages of aging (adult stage, middlescence, or old age).

Pediatric Nursing and clinical practices (1)(2)

This subject is a clinical practice subject. Students are able to understand children's normal development features from neonates to adolescence stage. It is designed to improve students' clinical performance skills for family centered children nursing such as direct nursing for growth and solving health problems through child nursing process and parents education.

Maternity Nursing and clinical practices (1)(2)

This subject is a clinical practice subject. Students are able to understand sexual characteristics of females according to their periodic developments, assess health problems and apply scientific and systematic nursing process to patients who are recovering after delivery and have gynecologic diseases in order to improve, maintain and recover the patients' and their family's health.

Psychiatric Nursing and clinical practices (1)(2)

This subject is a clinical practice subject at a public health center. Students are able to maintain and improve psychiatric health of a patient, family, and societies by understanding mental health and psychiatric disorder. They can also assess psychiatric patients' and their family's health problems, understand their clinical needs and apply nursing process to solve clinical problems in a systematic and scientific manner.

Community Health Nursing and clinical practices

This subject is a clinical practice subject. Students are able to improve an ability in nursing process to solve the health problems, providing direct nursing, health education, and means of management. Therefore they can prevent, maintain and promote health of individual, family, group and community as a community health client.

Emergency Nursing and clinical practices

This subject is a clinical practice subject. Through emergency room clinical practices, students are able to understand the basic concepts of emergency nursing, observe various emergent patients' status and perform fast and exact emergency nursing.

Management Nursing and clinical practices

This subject is a clinical practice subject. Based on the understanding of human beings, students are able to identify health problems, and apply nursing process considering patients' developmental characteristics in an incorporative view. They can also improve skills for nursing management and acquire attitudes and qualities for nursing manager so that they can systematically solve problems which can happen in an actual nursing process.

This subject enables students to acquire knowledge to analyze the causes of educational problems in families, school, and society, based on sociological methods. Also, they can understand the fact that education reflects society and the perpetuity and prosperity of society depends on education.
